Still a Gleek!!

I have not been following Glee like I did in the previous season. Tonight, I am reminded again why I love these kids so much :D
Maybe its them, or maybe I just have a soft spot for The Jackson's material, perhaps, maybe both :)

And while we are on this road, might as well share this one more time, I think I shared it before, but what the **** :P

Its the group week, my two favorite of season X (can't remember, don't bother to google even...)  Matt and Kris :)

Mark of the Jurist - Qawaidul Fiqh 101

I attended this course yesterday and today. Its not an Usl Fiqh course, it’s a course on how to apply the rules of fiqh in our daily lives. We also learned how scholars derived a fatwa, but that doesn’t mean coming out of this class we will be able to issue a fatwa by ourselves, :P

I am sharing today a simple enough guideline that clarifies certain things and perhaps can increase our quality of ibadah…InsyaAllah… :D

This is only a sub to one particular rule of fiqh, Rule no 1: All affairs are by their intention.
I guess we are all familiar with the famous hadeeth,  “Verily all affairs are by its intention and indeed for every person is what he intended ” [Hadeeth Al-Bukhari]

And the sub-topic is interjoining intentions (2 or more intentions together). In our daily actions, there are few categories:
C1: any obligatory action
C2: every non-obligatory action that must be done on its own
C3: any non-obligatory action that does not need to be done on its own.
Let’s be a bit specific:

And based on these categories, the rulings of combining intention are as follows:

So how do we apply the matrix?

Say for example, Fajr prayer is 2 rakaat, must only be done on its own. If you want to perform 2 rakaat of the the Nafl (solat sunat) before Fajr, in total you have to do 4 rakaat.

That is clear, but what we don’t know is, the category 2 and 3 can be combined in one occasion. For example, for a guy who prays at masjid, when he enters the masjid, he can combines the intention for 2 rakaat tahiyatul masjid and 2 rakaat of Nafl and only conduct a 2 rakaat prayer, but he gains both for tahiyatul masjid and the Nafl.

So lets have a look at another example, that is closer to women.  Due to menstruation, we rarely get to complete the 30 days in Ramadhan, there has always been a dispute year after year on whether or not can we combine the Qada and the 6 days of Shawwal. There is a lot of opinions, but what I learned today put things into perspective. Since Qada is category C1, and the 6 days of Shawwal is C2, then it cannot be combined.

I have listened to both opinions about allowing it and vice versa, and I took the one that is convenient to me, but now I have different opinion. May Allah forgive me for my ignorance before.

Ok akhi and ukhti, that’s it for now. The rest of the theoretical part of rules and principles of fiqh are pretty hard to explain so I would not venture into that. :D

Day + 2 : the day we spend whole of it on the road

5th Feb 2012.

Early morning we left Kaikoura to head to Frans Josef via Greymouth.
day 1 and day 2 route
The driving was estimated to be ~7 hours, but we were delayed by some 5 hours, why? The route was so breath taking; we just have to stop and took pictures most part of the way. I will just let the pictures do the talking :)
we experienced traffic jam, new zealand style :P
I drove first and was greeted by these flocks of sheep. Seriously we were stuck, until some local drivers help us to clear the way, we were too scared to honk, scared to disturb the peace..hehehe..
This is the first of the many more beautiful scenic locations that we occasionally had to stop. I mean who can resist the clear blue sky?

We arrived at this lake around 3pm, Lake Brunner, and yes, we stopped again!!

We reached Greymouth around 5pm. The town was almost dead, only then we realized, its Sunday!! We did not get to check out the recommended places, and the best that we had was late lunch in McD :D

Since there was nothing much to be done, we head on to Franz Josef and later face another detour ;)
This was at 8pm!!
The water was chilling, yup, I just had to dip in :)
This is the first place that I can relate to middle earth, the blue waters, the luscious green, and I don't know what the three pillars are, but it does look rustic!!

We lost track of time, and next thing we know, it was almost 9pm. By this time we are some 30 minutes away from the motel of the night.
We finally reached the motel by 9pm. The lady at the front desk almost call it a day :P
I super love the kitchen, facing mountains, memang berinspirasilah nak masak ala-ala Anna Olson dalam fresh tu..hahaha..
dengan gigihnya menyusun paket gula ni..menarik sangat!!!
After a long driving day, we tucked in at almost at 11pm, the temperature was <15 degC, though its summer, because we are really close to the glacier!! More about it in the next entry, mohon bersabar ya~~ ;)

Doakan saya...

Assalamualaikum...

I have been meaning to post on the Middle Earth adventure, but for the past one week, I have been nervous (seem to be using the word a lot lately).

The reason is, my window is up :D Its normal, after 5 years + here, the window will be opened, and we are allowed to apply for any other job opportunity, within the same company, of course. My mind was filled with job application.

And finally yesterday, I've finalized my applications. If I did not make it this time around, there will be another round of application in May, and another in September.

Jadi saya mohon ya mbak...doain saya ya... :) Makasih.....

After 14 years!!

I got a message on Thursday, from an ex classmate that is back on short holiday, asking if I can spare some time for a meet up. I immediately said yes :)

So on Friday, I got off work slightly early and nervously driving myself to Mont Kiara. Nervous, because I have never been there, and I was scared that I would either get lost, stuck in the jam or could not find the place and missed the opportunity to see her :P

But in the end, I got there on time and stayed there till quite late.
L-R : Yours truly, Haniza, Hwei Yen, Jacob, Ee Von, Elphine
Meet my classmate from Form 2 and 3. Only the last girl on the right wasn't. She was in S, all of us were in H.

These girls (apart from Elphine) were my study group for PMR :) We used to rotate houses on the weekend and study together. There was another one girl in the group but she could not make it.
I last met Haniza in UiTM, where we stumbled in an exam hall. Elpine was in the last 10th year reunion. Both Ee Von and Hwei Yen, I last saw them in school....that was 14 years ago!! Both of them are now doctors, Hwei Yen is getting married and Ee Von is expecting a second one.

Elphine, Haniza and I are still in the same boat :D. We had a good chat as Hwei Yen was pouring her hearts out on wedding stuffs and all. It will be a while till we can have a get together again...

Day + 1 : the day I really did throw up, seriously!!

3rd Feb
We took off from KL via LCCT. Air Asia-X is not really X. We endured the small space for an 11 hour journey, but hey, we made it safely ;) .
Touched down at close to midnight in Christchurch. Called the hotel transfer (though its only like 5 mins walk) because we were too lazy to drag the bags..hehehe..
We spent the night at Sudima Hotel and took the rented car first thing the next morning.
4th Feb
The agenda for today is drive to Kokoura and watch the whale!! When we took off, I was the co-pilot, but the moment we hit the road, I immediately had car sick. I’ve always feel that way when I was not driving. I switched to seat at the back. We reached the tour company at 12pm. At this time I was having car sick already. Our tour was scheduled to check in at 12.45 pm and head to the sea at 1.15pm. The 1.15 check in was cancelled due to bad weather, so we just barely made it. I took some anti-nausea meds to keep the car sick checked.

The bus took us to the pier and we got on board. After some briefing, the ride begins. It was roller coaster ride that I felt took forever until they stopped. The sea was rough. The boat was hit left right and centre by the violent wave that at times got even higher than the boat itself. Some people started to throw up. I was sick at this point. The first stop, we went outside. Though the boat stop, the wave didn’t. The boat was rocking really hard and we were holding for our dear life to any available bars. The ship crew was trying to locate the Sperm Whale, to no avail. We got in back and after another 5 minutes ride, I had it, I took the white bag in front of me and threw out my whole stomach content. Everything came out, all of it!! Nothing left, even the meds must have came out.

They stopped for second time, but still could not locate the whale. They said it’s getting nearer. In the midst of the boat start and stop cycle, I fell sick again, but this time nothing more left to be thrown up. It was really sickening!! Now I understand how pregnant women feel, maybe what I experience is merely 10% of it.
They keep on looking for the whale, because it’s the company policy to provide refund if we could not see the whale. By the time the whale came out, I was too sick, I could not get up, and I just stayed at my place and yes, I missed the opportunity to see live the Antarctic Ocean Sperm Whale. I was listening to the commentary all along, how the whale moves, how he dives back till the moment they last see the tail.
After that, we head back and I thought the ride back was much faster and less rocky, or maybe by that time I was accustomed to it already? Hmm… who knows? We got back to land close to 4pm and this time we were dead hungry. Having emptied out my entire stomach content, I was famished. We stopped for grilled fish and chips, but I could not finish the chips. After some grocery shopping, we checked in the next hotel, the White Morph Inn. It is on the main road facing the sea, so after washing up, we decided to stroll along the rocky beach.
That night we had a good night rest that we so badly needed because the next day the driving would be almost the entire day. Next stop, Frans Josef, and the day did got better after sort of a sickening experience :)
